Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to sign a model release?
Yes. If you are unsure, please contact us.
Where do you take the photos?
Photos are taken at the location of your choice. It could be at a park, store or your home. Please ensure the location allows photography and if restrictions apply.
When's the best time to take pictures?
Ideally, overcast days are great since the sun won't be shining in your eyes and cause you to squint. Early morning or late afternoon are best on sunny days. Indoor portraits can be scheduled anytime between 10am and 5pm.
What should I wear?
Choose clothing that flatters your body type and reflects your personality. Black and darker clothing tends to slim. Wear something comfortable. Accessories like jewelry and scarves are great, but not always necessary. Our suggestion is to wear color complimentary to your skin tone.
What shouldn’t I wear?
Prints with high contrast or busy patterns which tends to be distracting.
Can I wear eyeglasses for my shoot?
Glasses can make you look smart and professional, but they can be a challenge for a good portrait. The key to a good portrait is capturing the eyes, and eyeglasses can distort or darken them, and cause unwanted reflections. If you have contact lenses, it is better to wear them instead. Or, ask your optometrist if they will loan you a pair of frames without lenses.
Can I bring props to my shoot?
Yes. Bring anything you feel is important to enhance your photos. Some suggestions include: instruments, uniforms, sports equipment, hats, etc.
How about small children and pets?
Please let us know in advance. We love working with them, but they need extra planning.
We have some ideas of our own. Can we try them?
Of course! Come prepared with samples and we can talk about ideas.
How far do you schedule a photo session?
This depends on the time of year. The earlier you can contact us the better! We book appointments Tuesday-Friday and typically save Saturdays and Sundays for weddings.
How long does the photo session last?
Most sessions last about 30-60 minutes to 1-2 hours each depending on the type of session you scheduled.
If we need to reschedule, what’s your policy?
We would appreciate it if you can give us at least a 24 hour notice so we have a chance to fill in the time slot with another session.
What happens if it snows or rains?
Weather is hard to predict and if necessary we will reschedule you to another day.
When can I preview my pictures?
This depends on the type of photo session. It could be within a few days for simple headshots or portraits. Event photography photos may take up to a week. A Dropbox link will be sent to you to select pictures you would like to be included for online delivery.
What do I do after I view my pictures in Dropbox?
Within a week or two your pictures will be professionally edited. They should be then ready for you to download from our online gallery. A password will be sent to you via email.
Can I put my pictures on Facebook?
Yes. Just be aware of Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities “Sharing Your Content and Information” section which states: “For content that is covered by intellectual property rights, like photos and videos (IP content), you specifically give us the following permission, subject to your privacy and application settings: you grant us a non-exclusive, transferable, sub-licensable, royalty-free, worldwide license to use any IP content that you post on or in connection with Facebook (IP License). This IP License ends when you delete your IP content or your account unless your content has been shared with others, and they have not deleted it.”
This means that when you upload an individual photo, you are giving them the right to use your content in any way they wish. We would like to avoid “giving” our pictures to Facebook but we understand the growing need to share on the social network and will try to accommodate you when necessary.
